2 The first 4, he beat them, the last of them, he was the VP on the ticket which lost to Harding,

3 Well Jackson is only on 3, Stevenson 4, Bush 6, Nixon 5, the winner Roosevelt 8, Bryan 4, Harrison 4, Adams 6, Johnson, I say 5, as one time, Lincoln, beat  Douglas with both of them having a so named fellow as VP candidate, but I say Douglas did not finish 2nd, so does not count, while Theodore R while not being a Dem or Rep in 1912 had such a named guy and finished 2nd,  Clinton, has 3 recently, but also 1804, 1808 and 1812, saw the name feature in one of the 2 main parties lead tickets, rising it to 6, then 7 as of 1820, if you include the fact that Madison won that election almost unopposed (The last time such a event would occur of 3 times) apart from some sprinklings of votes for the Federalist party which had no effective candidate, and a Clinton, who was a very distant 3rd place, so the highest actual person other the winner., So in a sense 7, there was even a minor party candidate with the name as a Christian name.
